Maryland transportation officials say there were 511 highway deaths in 2018. This marks an 8.5% drop compared to 2017, when there were 558 deaths.
Last year, according to state transportation officials, there were 133 pedestrians killed (compared to 117 in 2017).
The statistics also say there six bicyclists killed in Maryland in 2018, a drop from 11 the year before.
Of course, 511 highway deaths, 133 pedestrian death, and six deaths of cyclists is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes time to look at all of the serious, catastrophic harm, falling short of death, caused by motor vehicle accidents in 2018.
